Family Heirlooms

Insulation foam, dowel rods, fishing line, paper, glue, spray paint, wall vinyl, 2023

Artist Seed Grant Recepient, Art Prize, Grand Rapids

The installation delves into the transmission of objects and genetic traits across generations. It embodies a delicate interplay between the forces of nature and the perpetuation of memories.

The artwork manifests as an extensive network of suspended mobiles, their rotations influenced by air currents. The components comprise a curated selection drawn from a trove of family heirlooms and personal artifacts such as letters, film slides, and scanned clothing patterns. These elements are then printed and affixed to foam, suspended from wooden rods.
