Austin Music Awards

Austin Music Awards

Creative Director + Lead Designer

The Ask

New leadership wanted to turn the Austin Music Awards into a party again after years of the white tablecloth gala format.

The Idea

Create an awards show that reflects and celebrates the current music scene. We wanted to start new traditions that would carry over for years to come.

The Result

We sold out the venue and gave attendees a visual feast while almost doubling our social following and engagement.

Phase One, Promoting the Music Poll

First, we commissioned our show poster from Billie Buck, the 2019 winner of Best Poster Artist. We created assets for the nominees to push out organically via social channels promoting the music poll. Our street team covered nominee’s shows with our custom branded Instagram filter via stories during free week generating thousands of views. We also created a suite of organic content to post reminding fans to vote in the poll.

Phase 2 Promoting the Show

We made a series of spots, cut-downs, and gifs with our hosts Jackie Venson and Chris Cubas that ran as organic and paid ads to promote ticket sales. To pay homage to our longtime volunteers we created “VolunTuesday” content that ran every Tuesday and highlighted their favorite AMA moments of the past. Once we announced the lineup, we created animated poster art.

Phase 3 Stage Design + Production

We commissioned a local 3D printing collective, Printerror design, to create a new trophy. Based on our poster art, we created free standing props and enlisted the help of local interactive media badass Psychojelly to projection map motion graphics on top of the props and on our center screen.
